Clarke Willmott advises on exciting new food hall development

Clarke Willmott LLP has acted on the redevelopment of a hidden courtyard behind two of the city’s historic arcades, to create a new and exciting food hall, the first of its kind in Cardiff.

Acting for private UK multi-strategy real estate investment firm, Mansford, Clarke Willmott has helped facilitate a challenging deal which sees the site of a ‘landlocked’ former nightclub within Duke Street and High Street Arcades in Cardiff gain a new lease of life, in the heart of the city centre.

Property developers, Loftco, who have delivered similar projects including Goodsheds in Barry; Newport Market; Cardiff’s Tramshed and Albert Hall, Swansea have started works and it is hoped that HYS Food Hall will be open before Christmas 2025.

The setting is expected to include independent street food traders, restaurants, event spaces and a wedding venue.

Commercial Property partner Julia Morris of Clarke Willmott, has dealt with the estate management legal work for the Arcades for the last seven years and during that time has seen a shift in the tenant base from being a retail hub to becoming a leisure and hospitality hotspot. As well as acting on the food hall development, Julia has dealt with the grant of leases to established tenants Pasture, Gin and Juice, Barkers Tea, Parallel and Maison De Boeuf.

Julia said: “This is a hugely significant project for Cardiff city centre. Mansford had a vision as to how to improve this area of Cardiff and I am privileged to have been involved in seeing this come to fruition. This area has become the go-to place to eat in Cardiff and this exciting development will build on that success and further enhance our client’s already successful tenant base. I’m delighted with the outcome and look forward to visiting the food hall when it opens.”
