After a year full of political and economic uncertainty the UK could a see a period of relative calm. The government has announced its plans to boost investment, and the Bank of England has begun cutting interest rates. However, an increasing tax burden, subdued business and consumer confidence, and a slowdown in demand from key trading partners could act as headwinds to growth. Emma Wilks, HSBC’s UK Economist, will provide her take on recent events and the outlook for the UK economy.
