Health & Safety Manager – Operations – Bristol

This is an exciting opportunity to own and lead in all Health and Safety areas for the entire estate of Clarke Willmott LLP.  In this newly created role, you will be reviewing existing processes, identifying improvements and implementing change.

This role will report to the Operations Director whilst supporting the wider Facilities Management Teams to deliver on targets, action plans and training that supports the firm’s strategy and complies with regulations.

This role will also support the firm’s Audit and Risk committee and help guide the firm in relation to all things Health and Safety.

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:

  • Develop a strong H&S strategy for the firm.
  • Ensure legislative and best practice is observed, in compliance with UK legislation, HSE guidelines and Company requirements.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and take through to implementation.
  • Devise and deliver a Health and Safety audit schedule.
  • Review develop and maintain PPM for all HSE and insurance activities.
  • Create quarterly and annual SHE Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) reports. Present to Audit and Risk committee.
  • Regularly visit Clarke Willmott offices, liaising and assisting Facilities Managers in terms of maintenance and Health and Safety.
  • Carry out investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents, recording all findings and addressing non-conformances and risks.
  • Develop, and conduct risk assessments for all core activities across the business.
  • Lead in development and maintenance of H&S Induction Training and Manuals for all new employees.
  • Day to day responsibility of the H&S onboarding and induction process.
  • Day to day responsibility of DSE Assessments, providing recommendations and support.
  • Be the go-to person for any tender related questions in relation to Health and Safety.
  • Support wider projects to ensure the relevant documentation is in place and appropriate considerations have been factored in.
  • Where appropriate, supporting with Suppliers in relation to H&S.
  • To be the natural go to person as escalation on H&S issues.
  • Provide H&S updates to the business.

Other Duties includes Reporting, Business Continuity and Security.

This role is right for you if:

  • Strong Health and Safety management experience within a professional services company
  • Previous process and policy management
  • Efficient and diligent document management
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory knowledge and understanding of FM, H&S and Environmental requirements
  • Excellent administration skills with strong skills in Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (Level 3 or above) or equivalent qualification
  • Membership of IOSH desirable
  • Experience of working and communicating with external agencies such as HSE, EHOs, and Fire and Rescue Services.
  • DSE Assessor trained
  • Internal auditor experience
  • Willingness to travel where required
  • Team player

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Hold at least Technical Membership with IOSH.
  • NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (Level 3 or above) or equivalent qualification.
  • Have a very good understanding of risk management and hazard identification.
  • Excellent organisation, communication and time management skills to match Client and Company expectations.
  • Good analytical, communication and presentational skills with proven ability to work as an individual, and lead or work as a team member as required, setting goals and objectives, and delivery of key targets.
  • Passionate about promoting safety cultural development and compliance, with an interest in supporting in the development journey.
  • Driven by facts and statistics, and able to communicate findings effectively with senior management.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk management and best practices within the legal sector.
