This is an exciting, varied role working in the Finance Compliance Team. You will be ensuring that the systems and controls are in place to enable the firm, its managers and employees to comply with their obligations under the SRA Accounts Rules.

Most of our people choose to work in a hybrid fashion, working from home and attending our offices on occasion. Our offices are in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton.

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:

  • Support the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager in maintaining the firm’s SAR breach register.
  • Work closely with the Cashiers team to ensure that daily processing is in line with policies relating to the Solicitors Accounts rules.
  • Support in the maintenance of Client own account activities and reconciliation processes
  • Review Client account balances across the firm, liaising with the business to ensure funds are retained appropriately or paid out appropriately. This includes ensuring strong matter balance narratives.
  • Provide clear, timely reporting on client funds held to the COFA, including findings from reconciliations and other reviews.
  • Escalate potential issues to the COFA.
  • Support the COFA with SAR review processes.
  • Routinely review financial transactions to ensure any potential breaches are identified and that any corrections required are undertaken in a timely manner. Ensure these are entered on the Breach Register.
  • Support in the Client own account reconciliation process.
  • Assist in researching, drafting and maintenance of client money policies in collaboration with the Senior Financial Compliance Manager.
  • Support in the annual SAR audit, undertaken by the firm’s external Accountants.
  • Support routine internal audits of case matter files to ensure compliance against the SAR. This will include reviewing all transactions and any relevant documentation.
  • Report any identified Breaches of the SAR to the Finance Compliance and Payments Manager, and COFA as appropriate.

This role is right for you if:

  • Strong reporting capabilities, working with Excel and SSRS reports.
  • Previous experience of working in a compliance role/risk management.
  • Knowledge of the ‘Solicitors Accounts Rules’ and AML a strong advantage.
  • Audit experience preferable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with Partners, fee earners and support staff.
  • Strong IT Skills, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Approachable, proactive, professional, adaptable, flexible.
