Clarke Willmott advises on healthcare deal

Lawyers at national law firm Clarke Willmott LLP have advised Asker Healthcare Group on its acquisition of Northern-Ireland-headquartered Hospital Services Group Ltd.

With headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, Asker Healthcare Group – which has 4,000 employees in 17 countries – has acquired the business from private equity and infrastructure investment manager Foresight Group.

Founded as a family business in 1962, Hospital Services Ltd. (HSL) is a specialist distributor of diagnostic medical devices, surgical equipment and consumable products, servicing public and private hospitals across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

With a staff of 175 and offices in Belfast, Dublin, Derby and Westbury in Wiltshire, HSL is one of the largest privately-owned distributors supplying the health sector with hospital supplies.

Clarke Willmott led on the transaction for Asker with Irish law advice from Byrne Wallace Shields and Northern Irish law advice from Carson McDowell.

The Clarke Willmott team was led by Bristol-based corporate partner Simon Smith. It also included Ed Foulkes, Chloe Santiago and Mihaela Bostan (corporate), Chris Connors (tax), Bethan Evans (banking), Amy Peacey (commercial), Sarah MacLarty and Louise Rogers (employment) and Irene Richardson (property).

“It was a pleasure to work on this transaction, which involved colleagues from several of our teams in various offices working seamlessly together (alongside firms in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) to facilitate the acquisition” says Simon Smith.
