Who we are

You’ll be joining a national law firm that enjoys a strong reputation, made possible by our exceptional people – each chosen for their industry knowledge and passion for their field. We want to help you to reach your full potential, love the work you do and deliver the best results for your clients. It’s our goal to make you feel great about working with us, and we work hard to cultivate a culture that makes it easy for you to stay with us for many years.

We work flexibly and you’ll be empowered to work where you do your best work, balancing your individual needs with the need for us to engage as teams and deliver excellent client service.

Most of our people choose to work in a hybrid fashion, working from home and attending our offices on occasion. Our offices are in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton.

This role is based out of our Taunton office and we are open to applications from individuals looking to work part-time but will require this to include working Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:

Our highly regarded Debt Recovery team is based only in our Taunton office, but it provides a national service for Government Departments, Local Authorities, insurance companies, managing agents, businesses and individuals. The team specialises in all aspects of debt recovery including pre legal collections, litigation, enforcement and insolvency action.

The team is divided into different sections. In this role you will work on our cashiering team and on a day to day basis, your role will involve:

  • Processing electronic funds transfers, cheque and cash receipts on Clarke Willmott systems.
  • Processing CHAPS payments using internet banking systems.
  • Processing credit/debit card payments.
  • Processing payment book requests and sending on to debtors.
  • Issuing cheques.
  • Undertaking Inter-Account transfers.
  • System account opening.
  • Dealing with unallocated receipts.
  • Daily queries both external and internal.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules where applicable.
  • Assisting with general administration tasks for the whole team.

It is a fast-paced role and you will need to juggle many priorities. You will need to be flexible to be an effective team player but you will also get support and training from your colleagues and manager in a relaxed but professional and hard-working team.

This role is right for you if:

You will ideally have experience in a financial or cash handling environment and have strong social skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds. You will certainly be extremely organised, with excellent time management skills, a keen eye for detail and able to work under pressure.

We will train you on our software systems but we will expect a good aptitude for technology and keyboard skills. If you have used case management systems or databases in the past that would be helpful. You may be a graduate in any subject or you may have pursued some further education studies (A levels, BTEC, NVQs etc) having achieved at least 6 more GCSE passes (or equivalent) including English and Maths.

A career at Clarke Willmott will feel different to other law firms. We thrive on our individual differences and diversity because as a team, we are united by our shared values and mutual respect. Working with us you will feel empowered, valued and free to be yourself in a safe and supportive environment.

Our mission is to help you realise your full potential whilst maintaining a positive work-life balance. We provide a comprehensive learning and development programme and a range of wellbeing initiatives to support your career journey.

There’s no doubt we expect the best from our people and even the occasional extra mile. In return, your dedication and commitment to the continued success of the firm will be rewarded with a comprehensive range of flexible benefits.
