Our Southampton office has grown substantially over recent years and now has around 90 people providing a wide range of legal services to corporate and private clients. Situated a few minutes from the M27, north east of the city, the office is easy to access and has free parking.

As a paralegal in our Commercial & Private Client Litigation team you will enjoy access to a wide variety of dispute resolution work. The team, ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners Directories, acts for businesses and private clients on commercial disputes and complex contractual claims, partnership and shareholder disputes, professional negligence, contested probate matters, defamation claims and fraud cases and other litigation cases.

It is an excellent place to begin or develop your early legal career by gaining broad exposure to so many different disputes, working predominantly for commercial clients (including international business and some household names) and also private individuals. As the sole paralegal supporting the full team of 5 solicitors, you’ll benefit from seeing different working styles which all produce high quality legal advice and exceptional client service.

Your work will vary from day to day. You will help deal with legal research, evidence gathering, discovery, procedural work and routine case preparation and administration. You will liaise with clients, expert and other witnesses, Court officials and opposing parties, assist with document drafting / preparation, note taking and costing. You may also assist with trial and hearing preparation. In short, you may get involved at any aspect of the litigation and file management process and assist on related team activities.

Working with supervision to help you develop your skills, you will build your legal experience. We recruit trainee solicitors from our experienced paralegal staff and this litigation team includes a solicitor who joined us in a paralegal role.

This role is right for you if:

We are looking for someone who will already have a good technical grounding in the law and the basics of the litigation process. Whether or not you have already gained some paralegal experience (in any field) you’ll be keen to develop your legal career undertaking complex dispute resolution work.

You’ll need a strong intellect to succeed in this role, so we will be looking for a corresponding level of consistent academic achievement. You’ll also need to show us that you have initiative, drive and great organisational skills. The work requires self-motivation, resilience and the ability to work to demanding deadlines.

Finally, legal practice is about people and this is very much a team orientated role.
You will relish helping others and be eager to learn. We expect you to be someone who takes pride in your work and who will provide a first class support service to your fee earners, anticipating their needs in advance wherever possible, and paying meticulous attention to detail in all of your work.
