Clarke Willmott advises on letting of new Skechers store in Truro
National law firm Clarke Willmott LLP has advised on the letting of a new Skechers footwear store in Truro, in time for the busy Christmas shopping season.
Sarah Manley, partner in the commercial property team at Clarke Willmott in Taunton, acted for property developer Summerfield Commercial on the letting of the empty city centre unit.
The store – on the site of the former Mountain Warehouse in St. Nicholas Street – has created 18 new jobs.
The building underwent a substantial refurbishment over the summer to remedy dilapidations, carried out by contractor BuildCare Plus, which included a new roof, demolition of a first-floor plant room, window repairs and full internal and external decorations.
Will Grant, divisional director at Summerfield Commercial, said: “It is fantastic to see this prominent retail space brought back to life and let to an exciting retailer.
“This has been a real team effort to meet a tight deadline, with close communication between our contractor, contract administrator (JLL), letting agents (Miller Commercial and Avison Young) and lawyers (Clarke Willmott) to ensure completion ahead of the target date.
“Our investment in the property means one of the world’s fastest growing footwear brands has a first class building to trade from.”
Alun Jones, Truro Business Improvement District (BID) manager said: “Truro BID, on behalf of Truro city centre, is delighted to see this empty premises back open for trading.
“The team at Skechers have done a great job; the store looks fresh and inviting with a great brand on offer. The new store will complement our retail offering within Truro and will certainly attract customer footfall. We wish Skechers every success with their new store”.
