Clarke Willmott celebrates 10th annual World Encephalitis Day
Every year, 500,000 people worldwide are affected by encephalitis, and yet 78% of people have never heard of the disease.
Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain caused by infection or an inappropriate immune system response. It can affect anyone of any age and its effects can be catastrophic.
22 February is World Encephalitis Day. The day was established by the Encephalitis Society to honour those affected by encephalitis. This year marks its 10th anniversary and as longstanding partners of the charity we are supporting them to raise awareness of this devastating condition.
#Red4WED
On Wednesday 22 February we will be lighting up our Bristol office in red as part of the Encephalitis Society’s Light up a Landmark campaign; going #Red4WED to shine a light on encephalitis. Our Bristol office will be lit up alongside famous landmarks around the world, including the BBC Television Centre in London, the Jet d’Eau in Geneva and Niagara Falls in Ontario. We’ll also be joining others involved in the campaign by turning our social media channels red for the day.
This February, the Clarke Willmott team is taking part in BrainWalk; a month of fundraising hosted by the Encephalitis Society. We’re walking, jogging and running as far as we can to raise money for the Society.

New research – encephalitis and mental health
This year, World Encephalitis Day will highlight new research on the co-occurrence of encephalitis and mental health problems. The Encephalitis Society aims to raise awareness of the increased risk of mental health problems in people affected by encephalitis. This will encourage risk assessment for mental health problems during the treatment encephalitis patients receive.
The Encephalitis Society’s vision is to create a world where encephalitis matters to everyone. They’re building a better future by driving research, accelerating awareness, and saving lives.
Specialist encephalitis claim solicitors
Our medical negligence solicitors are experts in complex claims relating to encephalitis in particular. We are proud to support The Encephalitis Society and share their aim “To improve the quality of life of all people affected directly and indirectly by encephalitis.”
“Our friends at Clarke Willmott have been a fantastic support to the Encephalitis Society for the past 6 years. Not only have they championed awareness of encephalitis through campaigns such as World Encephalitis Day, they have become a listening and expert ear for our community who may need their legal advice. We are very grateful to work alongside them to build a world where encephalitis matters to everyone.” – Dr Ava Easton, Chief Executive of the Encephalitis Society
Our solicitors are approved by the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme, the Action Against Medical Accidents (AVMA) Accreditation Scheme, Headway and the UKABIF. Meet the team and find out what our clients say about us
