In the spotlight: Kate Silverman
Name: Kate Silverman
Job Title: Partner
Area of expertise: Social Housing Development
Has worked at Clarke Willmott for: Just over two years
What is your background?
I joined Clarke Willmott 2019, having previously worked at a TLT and Lewis Silkin. I specialise in all aspects of social housing development with a focus on housing led regeneration. My clients include RPs and other public sector clients.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy working with some fantastic clients in the sector and it’s been great getting to know and understand their organisations and objectives. One of the great things about social housing is the huge variety of projects, clients and consultants that I get to work with in a very dynamic industry. It’s also great to work with a friendly and fast-growing team.
What challenges have you seen in the industry recently?
The social housing sector is facing massive challenges – from increasing construction costs and the introduction of the Future Homes Standard for new housing, to decarbonising existing housing stock and new building safety regulations.
How do you help clients?
I predominantly act for RPs, joint ventures and local authorities in social housing development transactions and regeneration. I support clients with anything related to the acquisition of property and the preparation and negotiation of property related agreements relating to a development; including advising on land assembly, options, conditional contracts, grant agreements, leases of EV charging stations as part of new housing developments and biodiversity net gain. Early engagement is key. If we can get involved at heads of terms stage, alongside other members of an RPs professional team, we can identify and mitigate potential risks right at the outset, which benefits our clients in the long run.
