Remarkably, in these troubled times even war in a European country is displaced as the headline news by events which took place at the Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Trust over the last 20 years. The avoidable deaths and injuries suffered by both mothers and babies due to failings in care has come as a shock to the media and the public. Unfortunately, to those of us who practice in this field of law, the stories told are all too familiar, and by no means limited to this one hospital nor to the last 20 years.
Lessons are not learned and will not be learned without a change in culture. That makes it all the more important that we continue to do what we do, whether in the field of clinical negligence or personal injury.
The articles in this edition shine a light on the risks to life and limb which are exposed by our work, supporting clients who may need compensation but who are often driven by the desire to prevent this “happening to somebody else”.
